Abacus Settlements LLC

Earlier this year we published our top 5 life settlement brokers and our top life settlement providers. We’re excited to debut our first solo review of a company that earned the distinction of being one of our top 5 life settlement providers for 2018.

Review: Abacus Settlements LLC

Grade: A

Major benefits:

  • Industry leader in speed
  • Large purchase range
  • Helpful and simple learning center

Downsides:

  • Not licensed in all 50 states

One of the fastest growing companies in the direct-to-consumer life settlement market, Abacus has made a name for itself on two major factors: speed and broad purchase range.

And by speed, we’re talking approvals in as little as 24 hours. For those who’ve never applied for a life settlement, that’s industry record speed. A “fast” approval process typically takes from 5-7 days – and many approvals can take as long as 30 days. The company also features ‘Abacus Express’ for agents, streamlining their paperwork and approval process, meaning they’re a name you might come across even if you’re going with a broker and agent arrangement. You can trust your agent has good reason to be pursuing Abacus.

Abacus’s broad purchase range means they are more likely to purchase life settlements others might deny. This includes policies for those who are young, in good health, or have smaller policies. If you’re getting denied by a different company (or even not making it past their pre-qualifying calculator), try Abacus, as their preference for volume means they’re willing to take smaller profit on individual policies.

In addition to life settlements, Abacus has a great learning center for those looking for a primer on what a life settlement is, why someone might pursue one, or what the process entails. While not as in depth as some others, it is streamlined and concise – making it probably one of the more efficient and quick reads we’ve seen.

Or if you’re someone who prefers a more human touch to learning, Abacus has both an online chat module, as well as a customer service phone line. Both lines are fairly responsive.

Abacus’s main downside is it currently isn’t licensed to operate in all 50 states. Those living in AK, ID, LA, MT, NE, NH, ND, VT, WA, & WI will have to shop elsewhere for their life settlement.

Overall, we are very pleased with the experience provided by Abacus, which received an A+ from the better business bureau. We’d recommend to anyone searching for a quick approval process, including those who may not be eligible with other providers.
